How to Implement the Lesson
Introduction
Begin with a class discussion about what kindness and respect look like in both the classroom and online. Talk about examples like saying thank you, giving compliments, or helping others.
Modeling
The teacher demonstrates how to use Padlet, showing how to post a message and reply kindly to others.
Student Task
Each student will post one kind or encouraging message to the class Padlet. Students will then choose one classmate’s post to respond to with a kind comment.
Reflection
End the activity with a group discussion about how it felt to give and receive kind messages. Talk about why respectful online behavior matters.
Using TEPAC Model and PICRAT Placement
TEPAC Model (How it will be applied in the Activity)
- Technology- Padlet used as the digital platform for interaction.
- Environment- Classroom setting with teacher guidance and modeling.
- Pedagogy- Whole-class discussion, modeling, and peer interaction.
- Assessment- Rubric-based evaluation, checklist and teacher observation of student behavior.
- Content- Social-Emotional skills and responsible digital behavior
PIC-RAT Analysis
- PIC-RAT Placement: Interactive + Amplifies
- Student Role: Interactive – students engage directly with technology by posting and replying.
- Teacher Role: Amplifies – technology makes it easier for students to communicate, share, and build digital community in a safe space.
Learning Activity B
Activity: Kindness Campaign – Digital Posters
Standards and Learning Objective
-
ISTE Student Standard 1.7c – Project Teams
Students contribute constructively to project teams, assuming various roles and responsibilities to work effectively toward a common goal.
- Content Area (Grades 2–3, ELA)
Students will develop and organize ideas to produce writing that expresses an opinion or message clearly. They will collaborate with peers to plan, create, and present their ideas using digital tools.
- Learning Objectives
By the end of this activity, students will...
Collaborate in small teams and take on specific roles to create a shared writing and design product.
Write a clear and positive message that shows others the importance of kindness.
Use digital tools to make and present a group poster.
Reflect on their role in a team and their experience with group project and presentation.
Activity and Assessment
What is the activity?
In small groups, students will create a Digital Kindness Poster using Google Slides, Powerpoint or Canva. Each team member will take on a specific role (writer, designer, researcher, presenter). The goal is to work together to spread a message of kindness and practice effective communication and collaboration with one another. All you need is a electronic device with internet access and access to Google Slides or Canva for Education.
Steps:
-
Talk with the class about how teamwork and kindness go together. Review the Kindness Wall from Activity A.
-
Put students into groups of 3–4. Each student picks or is given a role:
-Writer: Helps with the kindness message and writing
-Designer: Chooses visuals, colors, and layout
-Researcher: Finds kindness quotes or related ideas
-Presenter: Shares the final proster to the class
-
Teams brainstorm their message and plan what the poster will look like.
-
Groups work together in Google Slides, PowerPoint or Canva (whichever application you prefer) to make their kindness poster.
-
Once done, each group presents their poster and explains their message.
-
After presentations, students write a short reflection about their role and what they learned.
Assessment:
Students are scored using a simple rubric based on:
- Posting a kind message
- Writing a kind reply
- Using Padlet safely
- Joining the class discussion
Assessment Rubric:
Total Points: 12
-
10–12: Meeting or exceeding expectations
-
7–9: Developing with some support needed
-
6 or below: Needs improvement and guidance
Criteria | Score for Each 3-(Excellent) 2-(Developing) 1-Needs Improvment |
---|---|
Group Role Participation | (3) Fully participates and completes their role. (2) Participates with reminders. (1) Rarely contributes or off-task. |
Poster Message and Design | (3) Message is kind, clear, and creative. (2) Message is present but needs more detail or clarity. (1) Message is unclear or lacks kindness. |
Team Communication | (3) Works well with group and shows respect. (2) Communicates but needs some reminders. (1) Struggles to work respectfully with others. |

How to Implement the Lesson
Introduction
Begin with a class discussion about what kindness and respect then, have a reflection on the previous kindness activity. Talk about how we can use our writing skills to create something that spreads kindness and helps others feel good.
Modeling
The teacher shows a sample digital poster and models how to create one using Google Slides, PowerPoint or Canva. The teacher also models respectful teamwork and clear writing.
Student Task
In teams, students take on specific roles and work together to write and design a kindness digital poster. They brainstorm, create, and present their message to the class.
Reflection
After presenting, each student completes a short written reflection about their role, how their group worked together, and what they learned about writing and working together.
Using TEPAC Model and PICRAT Placement
TEPAC Model (How it will be applied in the Activity)
- Technology- Google Slides, PowerPoint or Canva used to create and share posters.
- Environment- Collaborative classroom teams with digital tools.
- Pedagogy- Group writing, role-based collaboration, presentation, reflection.
- Assessment- Rubric-based evaluation and personal reflection.
- Content- Writing (expressing ideas clearly), digital publishing, and teamwork.
PIC-RAT Analysis
- PIC-RAT Placement: Interactive + Transforms
- Student Role: Interactive – students actively collaborate and create with classmates and technology.
- Teacher Role: Transforms – the technology transforms traditional writing and poster making into a digital, team based project.
My Reflection
After working on each of these lessons, I believe Activity A helped shape Activity B in several ways. In Activity A, students practiced kindness through individual posts and replies. Yes, this was a good way to interact but, the activity was more isolated and limited to basic interaction. I don't think its a bad lesson, but it can be a start to understand how to start collaborating online then moving to teamwork based projects. That overall experience showed the importance of adding collaboration and a shared goal that was worked on individually. Activity B builds on that by introducing teamwork and structured roles, which works great with the ISTE Standard 1.7c. It improves technology usage by using tools like Google Slides, PowerPoint or Canva, for creating a meaningful digital product together. The assessment is also stronger, with a clear rubric that measures collaboration, writing, design, and reflection, I used the same layout of the assessment from Activity A. Overall, Activity B promotes communication with a team, creativity, and working together to make a final project.
